"I have been running for around 23 years and have 20 years experience in sports retail.  I started my career in Cornwall where I took on a struggling sports shop, and turned it around to become a popular store and part of the local community. After moving back to the midlands I realised the need for a good running store in Burton and opened Running Form in December 2009. Burton and the surrounding areas throughout Staffordshire and Derbyshire have a vibrant running and triathlon scene and feel privileged to be a part of that.  I feel very well supported by my wife Laura who is also an avid runner and runs Physio Form physio and sports injuries clinic based next door to the shop.  We also received a lot of support from our families in order to juggle babysitting and try out new ideas and even lending a pair of hands at events."

"Running has always been a big part of my life. I have been running since I was 11 years old and started out on the track doing 100 and 200m.  I then got into triathlon and started running slightly longer distances and have completed a  few sprint triathlons.  My other interests include kayaking, skiing, climbing and swimming and I have competed in some ultra distance kayak races. Despite all the different sports I have done, running has remained a constant in my life and I feel honoured to be part of the running community.  I come from a running family and my mum, dad, husband and  eldest sister all run  and hopefully one day my two young boys will come to love it as much as we do."

"In a nutshell – born down south, forged up north, live to thrive!

I was born in Kent but grew up in Sheffield and married a Burton girl. I was football mad when I was younger but a passion for running began in 2008 when I ran my first marathon out in New York. Since then I have gone on to complete all six of the world marathon majors and have currently run 15 in total with more on the horizon. Bit it hasn’t just all been marathons. I have dipped my toe into ultra running, completing a 100k race and a 12 hour solo race and a 50k beer ultra and a beer mile!

Running has become an essential part of who I am in so many ways. I have travelled the world to run, written about running, set up a running club, raised money for charity through running and now, alongside having the enjoyment of working in a running shop, I also have my own running coaching business.
Besides running I love listening to music and going to live gigs. As hinted to above I also have an appreciation for craft beer, especially big strong stouts! This is the reason why I cant stop running.

"Running has been part of my life since I started at my local track aged 10.  I then went on to compete for Great Britain for many years which opened many doors for me as well as allowing me to make some lifelong friends which is what I absolutely love about sport.  My passion continued to Loughborough University where I studied Sports Science and later in life as a rep for Ronhill and now in my current role here at Running Form.  My favourite thing about working in the store is hearing each persons individual story and helping make their journey as comfortable as possible."

Matt Lear

Matt Lear

I’m Matt Lear, 20 years old and in my final year studying for a degree in Sports and Exercise Science at Derby University. I have been a coach at Burton Athletics Club for 2 years now coaching the middle distance group.I started competitive running at 16 and have run in numerous track, road and cross country races. I am a competitive triathlete and was aiming for European qualification in 2020 but as we know Covid wiped all events out.

My fastest 5k on track is 15:54 and my fastest 10k on road is 33:06 which was achieved in 2020 at the Fradley 10k where I finished 6th.

My week involves studying, coaching, training and working at Running Form on Saturdays or as required around my university lectures. There is little time left for anything else.

I have followed a plant based diet for the last three years and feel the benefits in my training and lifestyle.
